Prose follows: “I’m sorry,” Jade says, when he sees Mythra next. “That was unkind of me—” “Next time you know the answer to something, just tell me, okay??” Mythra demands of him, desperately, instead of letting him say any more bullshit. “You could’ve just said that Malik runs a stupid safehouse for flesh eaters, you know!” Jade stares at her for a stunned moment, and then nods. “I will,” he says. The fury in Mythra fades out, satisfied. She doesn’t care why he didn’t. She can think of a million reasons why that was the kind of thing he felt he might have needed to keep secret; a million more where he didn’t even consciously consider it a secret as much as he simply deflected from being honest. Of course he did that. Whatever! That’s not the point. The point is that he doesn’t keep secrets from her. The point is that he doesn’t make her feel stupid for something she doesn’t know. But that’s too much to say—too fucking much, and too close, besides. So, instead: “Promise?” she asks. “I promise.” And that’s that sorted, too.

screenshot of rough, unedited dialogue. and it makes a blade wonder, doesn't it - the kind of wish that brought me here. the kind of wish that brought her to me. maybe she has put it out of her mind, maybe it hasn't even occurred to my mythra yet, but it was an inkling in my mind as of yesterday, and now that i stand in this universe - likely because my mythra wished to see me, wished in a moment of distress to have me at her side - i am quite certain. and: i'll be polite. i will not ask what led up to that moment, becuase i'm sure neither of us will like the outcome of that conversation, and if i had to choose only one fight to pick with you, it won't be about my mythra, who i know will be safe back home as soon as we are done here, but about yours, who i have to entrust into your hands when i leave anyway. it makes a blade wonder, doesn't it. what kind of wish would cause her to trade one universe for another - to put herself in the shoes of a different mythra - *my* mythra, in *my* lap, in *my* resonance. i do not even consider myself a good driver. what kind of wish would she have to make that *i* would be preferable to you? and i think - i think, even, that's the sticking point. she could have just wished to be elsewhere, and ended up anywhere she desired. what did she wish, that its fulfillment conditions required not only she end in my universe, but in my *resonance*? did she wish for a better driver? for a friend? maybe just someone who would respect her, and listen to her. i don't know, and maybe i'm reading too much into it, but i find i do that, often.
