The strange tower of Codorus Furnace dating back to 1756, once owned by James Smith of York, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Cannon balls were cast in the original furnace during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. until it ceased operation in 1850.

At the base of a valley of tall, leafless trees awaiting Spring, with moss and lichen on its square base. The last piles of the past month's snow clinging to its front. Above the square base, a stone circular tower rises, before giving way to a small square brick top, offset to the front of the tower below.
