The outer sheath (spathe) of a calla lily. This one is deep red with areas on the outer surfaces that look almost black, and fine reticulation. You see hints of the interior, which is rich red-magenta.

On a black BG a pair of flowers. Each consists of a spathe, that we see here, and a spadix, hidden here. At the bottom are the stems, bright green. The spathe rises from the, going from green through mottling with purple, to pale purple mottled with darker purple, darker lines running its length, textures on the outside a bit like human skin. On the inside, smooth and rich grape violet purple. Lighting mostly from below.

#Zantedeschia another #SouthAfrica native perennial happy in our #Mediterranean climate here in the #SFBayArea.

Rote Zantedeschia, auch Aronstab, Calla, Calla-Lilie oder Kannenpflanze genannt Ich kaufte sie letztes Jahr im September, aber bald verlor sie alle Blüten und Blätter. Ich begann erst im März wieder zu Gießen, mit warmem Wasser. Und sie begann zu sprießen.
