Das Diagramm zeigt einen zyklischen Entwicklungsprozess komplexer Systeme von der Phase der Exploration über Wachstum und Optimierung bis zur Überoptimierung und schließlich zur Singularisierung. Während der frühen Phasen dominieren Lernfähigkeit, Innovation und strukturelle Varianz. Mit zunehmender Optimierung steigt jedoch die strukturelle Verdichtung des Systems, wodurch adaptive Rückkopplungen schrittweise eingeschränkt werden. In der finalen Phase der Singularisierung verliert das System seine Fähigkeit, zwischen Exploration und Exploitation zu wechseln, wodurch das Risiko eines systemischen Zusammenbruchs deutlich zunimmt. Der Zyklus visualisiert somit den graduellen Übergang von adaptiver Stabilität zu struktureller Fragilität.
