I’m so honored to have the endorsement of the Ann Arbor Tenants Union! I look forward to partnering with the AATU to create and implement a tenants bill of rights that protects the wellbeing of the thousands of renters in our city #a2council #a2renters

Thank you #A2council and #A2Renters commission! And we need to ban these algorithms that change rent quotes sometimes multiple times per day (pssst: we have a bill for that!)

This is a shorter-term action we can take to help the over one million renters in our state, while also enacting policies to address the longer-term housing crisis. 3/3

We introduced our first bill today, HB 4009, to repeal Michigan's preemption on local governments establishing rent stabilization policies. Cities across the state are asking for this because #TheRentIsTooDamnHigh ! #Rent #RentIsTooDamnHigh #A2Renters #MILeg #Michigan

Thank you, again, to all the collaborators who made this victory possible: the #A2Renters Commission, the Ann Arbor Tenants Union, #AnnArbor City Staff, my #A2Council colleagues (especially Cynthia Harrison), and all the community members who spoke out and shared your stories!

This is a huge victory for #A2Renters that ends an unconscionable & predatory practice that has – for too long – been driving up the cost of renting & living in #AnnArbor.

Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we’re back to work!

Next up: Rent Transparency (banning all rental junk fees).

This legislation has been a long time coming, and I want to thank the #A2Renters Commission – especially Chair Rosanita Ratcliff and fmr. Chair Zackariah Farah, the AATU, City Staff, and #A2Council CM Harrision for their hard work alongside me to end this egregious & exploitative practice.

Apartment waitlist, other ‘junk fees’ could be banned in Ann Arbor The days of Ann Arbor landlords charging prospective tenants over $6,000 to get in line for apartments with no guarantee they will become available may be over soon.

“The proposed law aims to ban pre-tenancy fees, including out-of-control waitlist fees, and cap application fees at $50 and make them refundable if a lease isn’t offered, Radina said.” #A2Council #A2Renters #AnnArbor

Finally, companion #A2Council legislation is being finalized to follow quickly thereafter to bring much-needed Rent Transparency to #AnnArbor, by banning rental junk fees & daylighting all rental costs, allowing #A2Renters to shop apples-to-apples in our rental market & avoid costly hidden fees.

For too long, too many landlords have used predatory fees to profit off of #A2Renters and make living in #AnnArbor more expensive. #A2Council has the power to take action, and this legislation is a necessary first step.
