The station was part of the Caledonian Railway line between Partick and Dunbarton. It opened as Scotstoun Station in 1896, and changed its name to Scotstoun West in 1900. It closed in 1964 as part of the cuts instigated by Richard Beeching.

The station opened in 1896, and temporatily closed in 1917. It re-opened in 1919 and then closed permanently in 1939. The line closed in 1964 and the station buildings were demolished in 1971.
