Thursdays are for acetate digitizing. Today is starting with a Record-Your-Voice booth recording of a man on July 4th 1962 (probably) talking and singing Elvis' Hawaiian Wedding Song. Recorded at Crystal Beach Ontario.

Some great western music on this acetate from Canada. It's labeled as the Round Up Rangers, which might be the same band that released a handful of 78s in the 1930s, but I'm not positive. Either way they sound great!

Here are a pair of discs recorded in Paris with Arabic handwriting on the labels. The first has two solo instrumentals and the second has two duets with piano. Listen here:

These are acetates of demos Gerry Goffin & Carole King brought home from their sessions...
An acetate disc is a type of phonograph record generally used from the 1930s to the early 1960s for recording and broadcast purposes and still in limited use today.

The difference between a well stored acetate and a poorly stored acetate, both are from 70-80 years ago.
On the right you can see the playing surface peeling from the inner metal core of the disc. Much of that music is unplayable now and the rest of the disc is very fragile.
