levi and erwin painted in the style of baroque or renaissance religious sculpture. both men are tastefully nude. erwin lies back, head cradled in levi’s hand, looking up at levi half-conscious. his left arm dangles limply and the stump of his right arm is visible. erwin’s side is ripped open, and intestines and broken bones fall out of his gored side. levi kneels and cradles erwin’s head with one hand, and holds up the syringe with the other. he looks at erwin mournfully, with a few tears on his cheeks. they are surrounded by dark clouds brightly lit . levi is haloed in a sunburst like a saint and the sun glows behind the uplifted syringe in his hand.
