The Peacock who Howled with Jackals by Naheid Kazemi (Owlkids) #picturebook inspired by a fable from the Persian poet Rumi. TBH a really fresh take on animal allegory for identity and marginalization. I love this peacock and family of jackals ❤️ #ALAAC2025 bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

ALA Annual 2025: Another Exciting Year! #alaac2025 ALA Annual 2025 in Philadelphia wrapped up on Monday, June 30 – and it was a huge success! More than 14,000 people attended the conference, experiencing everything from membership events, to major speakers such as George Takei and Carla Hayden, and networking with fellow library workers. While there were hundreds of programs and events to choose from, here are some of the highlights from ALSC. Newbery-Caldecott-Legacy Banquet The NCL Banquet is one of ALSC’s biggest events at ALA Annual. This year, we were delighted to hear from Caldecott winner Rebecca Lee Kunz, Newbery winner Erin Entrada Kelly, and Children’s Literature Legacy Award winner Carole Boston Weatherford. As many of our conference bloggers and members have noted in the past, this is a must-attend event for anyone passionate about children’s literature. If you didn’t make it this year, be sure to put it on your list for next year! While a... The post ALA Annual 2025: Another Exciting Year! #alaac2025 appeared first on ALSC Blog. The Gold Leaf by Kristen Hall & illustrated by Matthew Forsythe from @enchantedlion.bsky.social A cautionary tale of greed with woodland creatures, hopeful ending & subtle environmentalist message. Feels like an old folk tale in the best way. Beautiful gold foil details! #picturebook #ALAAC2025

#alaac2025 was an incredible experience! Scroll through some of the highlights of ALSC's programming during the conference, including the NCL Banquet and our other awards programming.

And a special thanks to @levinequerido.bsky.social (pictured here) for the production of the 2025 Banquet program!

During the #ALAAC2025 YA horror panel that I presented on (w/ some of my favorite people), we talked about this a lot. Kids need to know they can fight monsters & win, PLUS practicing being scared (from a safe space) teaches coping skills/resilience for dealing with real life & more mundane horror.

Had a very busy but rewarding time @ #ALAAC2025... a marathon of intense sessions that will help build stronger services for our ever changing communities. Apologies as I didn't see many people. @wilmingtonbanjo.bsky.social @sendaulas.bsky.social @petercoyl.bsky.social wish it was more than a wave!

So I just had to call my #alaac2025 hotel for a copy of my bill, and the person I talked to (after she emailed me the bill) said "Oh! And thank you for all the books! The staff were so pleased to get those!" so if you stayed at the Hampton Inn and left books, I'm passing that along. Well done.

#alaac2025 was restorative. Felt fortunate to have time with colleagues, friends, & mentors, talking about libraries & the research that can support their valuable services to communities. Also poignant to be in Philadelphia, the birthplace of American democracy.

Today was full of author signings and free ARCs and walking miles in the exhibits hall. Mailed a box of books home from the on-site PO. It was so fun being surrounded by people passionate about books, diverse stories, information access, freedom of speech and democracy #alaac2025 #alaac25

Did I just spot celebrity librarian @mychal3ts.bsky.social on my way to #ALAAC2025! Yes I did. But let’s be real: All librarians are celebrities, by which I really mean heroes.
