Our three beautiful boys are the stars of our April calendar page 🫏🫏🫏

With three rooms like this, it will keep the livestock housed here comfortable and warm at night and they'll be able to go in and out during the day as they like.

Cookie is an absolutely wonderful example of what #KSAR can do.
Rescued with friends Biscuit and Muffin after a hard life of backbreaking work, all 3 now live in Parwan. They've earned a relaxed retirement.

Our old boys got their monthly checkup and had their hooves trimmed.
They’re getting fuzzier for the winter, but during the daytime it’s sunny enough that they don’t need their coats on yet.

These gentle boys were initially stabled in Kabul, but we've since moved them to Parwan province.
It's cooler and quieter. They spend their retirement in an orchard, or in their stables with hay, big water bowls and caretakers who respect them and show them kindness.

Cookie, Muffin and Biscuit are loving blue skies and fresh grass.
They always have hay and fresh water available to them, as winter settles in Parwan province, where our donkey sanctuary is we'll put their winter blankets on them.
But for now, it's blue skies and sun.

Thimble was castrated one week ago and has healed beautifully.
We'll keep him down in Kabul with us for another few days before he goes up to Parwan, where it's cool and green.
In the meantime, he's showing us what a kind steer he can be and getting some hugs from Zahir.

Our (not so) little boy, Thimble, is healing beautifully.
It’s our last day with Dr.Chenjerai, he’s been working with the vets on final post-op checkups. We are also collecting samples to send to the lab in Dubai.

Cookie had some supervised time with his pals. His appetite is great and his vitals are normal.
Today began with a bull castration, a look at Leggy and his goat family, and a training session on goat hoof trimming.

Our sweet boy, Thimble, had a smooth and quick castration surgery today.
He's already up, munching on some hay! He's a little glassy eyed right now, but he'll feel better soon.
The team is now off to check on little Leggy, his adopted mama and sister goats.

This surgery was truly an enormous feat to plan for. Our team has been planning for several months now, and we're so grateful that Dr. Chenjerai was able to travel here to conduct this week of equine training and perform live-giving surgery for our beloved boy.
