Char is flesh and blood, but he doesn't see himself that way. He is a machine like the mobile suits he pilots, and he has directives that he will fulfill whatever the cost. He'll rebuild himself again and again until he's satisfied that he's achieved his goals. Machines aren't perfect. They often need repairs and replacement parts. Amuro Ray is a missing piece that Char wants to graft onto his soul, because for whatever reason (the reason doesn't matter, really) Amuro makes Char run more smoothly. And just his luck, Amuro is the best mechanic he knows. Amuro can pin him down and vivisect him, pull him apart piece by piece and wire him back together. Better. Stronger. He knows Amuro. And he trusts Amuro.
They're alone and Amuro rips Char apart, piece by piece. First he pulls off the sunglasses and throws them to the floor. Then he delves inside Char's mind. Peels off mask after mask. Rips every persona away from him. What are you? He demands, the thoughts jagged black obsidian piercing Char's soul. Who are you, really? Char's soul is laid bare, he gasps, quivers beneath Amuro's touch. “I'm yours,” he gasps finally. Everything he is exists in relation to Amuro. He's Amuro's rival, he's Amuro's machine to take apart and rebuild. Make me yours, I want to be yours, I want you to tear through my flesh and eat my still-beating heart raw.
You're already mine, Amuro tells him. He kisses the scar on Char's forehead, and Char shudders. He's pinned to the wall, like a golden butterfly in a collector's box. Amuro pushes his lips to Char's neck; Char wants him to bite his throat and rip out his veins with his teeth. He wants them both to drown in a pool of their blood. They've both already shed so much. They deserve nothing less. He wants all this, and he knows Amuro wants it too, because their thoughts are all running together, wires crossing, emotions and synapses and nightmares and kaleidoscopic newtype visions all running together between them. Amuro snarls, teeth bared and pressed against Char's neck. Char moans. “You're shameless,” says Amuro. “You wanted to know who I am,” says Char. "Mm," says Amuro.
Char is hungry, so hungry, and he kisses Amuro desperately. Amuro kisses him back and the two of them share a moment, running fingers through hair and gripping shoulders and backs; Char can't quite tell what he and Amuro are doing respectively because they're all tangled up as one being. Perhaps that's how it should be. What are you? Yours. Yours. Yours. But then everything falls away, because they sense people approaching and they pull apart. The connection breaks, mostly; it can never actually be broken because they have been permanently tied to each other since A Baoa Qu. Still, Char is loathe to leave the moment. Someday, perhaps, he and Amuro could be alone for long enough that Amuro can finish fixing him. That will have to wait for another day. For now Char feels refreshed enough; his gears freshly oiled. That will have to do for the time being. He and Amuro go their separate ways.
