I presume the central initials are those of James Thomson Tullis, for whom Kiloran House was originally built, and this and a couple of other similar carved stones are the only traces left it.

Finally, the exact location of these modern flats became home to the Anniesland Industrial Hostel sometime in the 1930s. It was only when this was demolished in the post-war years that it was finally converted into housing.

It makes sense that this area would be targetted by German bombers in WWII as the Barr and Stroud Industrial site (which made optics for the UK military) was just behind it. However, looking back at old maps reveals a different story.

The area at the centre was thicker and had ripples in it, and this created the bullseye effect. Such glass was traditionally cheaper than flat panes.

This involved creating a hollow globe of glass that was then flattened and spun to give a circular sheet. The bits around the edge were the best quality and were cut to create flat panes.
