Central and eastern Oregon have the worst air, and it’s moderately bad in Portland and down the I-5 corridor to Salem and Eugene. People with asthma or COPD will be at risk if outdoors, as will kids and elders. Smoke particles are some of the smallest microscopic air pollution particles and they can lodge permanently in the lungs, causing inflammation, asthma, and COPD or worsening allergies. A sealing N95 mask is better than nothing but only P100 respirators are rated to prevent smoke inhalation. A bandana or scarf will not protect your lungs. Be careful and stay safe. Limit outdoor activity and use HEPA filters indoors or a Corsi Rosenthal box to clean the air. Keep windows shut and use blue painter’s tape to seal drafts from outside. Any other type of tape will mar surfaces and leave residue.

Air is bad across much of the state. Limit outdoor exposure and wear a P100 respirator. An N95 mask is better than nothing. But only P100s are rated to filter out the smallest smoke particulates. Keep windows shut & run hepa or corsi rosenthal filters
