The world is on fire, and I am a coauthor of a new book on #aromanticism. I am very proud to be a part of this, but also 90% of my brain space is about the ongoing ICE occupation.

Less than three percent of participants spoke Mandarin Chinese (2.2%), Dutch (2.2%), Portuguese (2.2%), Polish (2.2%), Hungarian (1.3%), Finnish (1.3%), Russian (1.1%), or Danish (1.0%). harrowing as fuck when you realise you don't really want a romantic partner you just want to be prioritised like one. #aromanticism
White letters that say "Aromantic spectrum" over a purple background and the logo of the Ace Community Survey Team (four squares colored with the asexual flag colors. The last one has a white tick over it).
When asked if respondents considered themselves to be on the aromantic spectrum, about half indicated that they did (51.4%), a third did not (30.3%), and about a fifth of respondents were unsure if they were on the aromantic spectrum (18.3%).
Happy Aro Week!

The picture states: Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week happens the week after Valentine's Day in February and is a time to celebrate and raise awareness of Aromantic identities. Throughout the week, Aromantic people and allies come together through conversations, social media, and education to share experiences, increase visibility, and build community. The Aromantic Alliance, Arospec, and Aromantic Visibility and Education Network, offer resources, events, and support.
Screenshot of a picture on Instagram posted by user acesexeducation it states as follows Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week! Aromantic describes people who experience little to no romantic attraction. Aromantic people may never experience romantic attraction, or rarely experience it, or only under certain circumstances. Aromantic people may feel life that's, Platonic, Familial, Affectionate, Nurturing, or may identify as Loveless. Aromantic people may be favorable towards Romance, indifferent towards romance, averse towards romance, or repulsed towards romance. Aromantic people may want companionate relationships, monogamous relationships, polyaffectionate relationships, queerplatonic relationships, or may be single at heart. Include Aromanticism in conversations around orientation, relationships, and romantic love. Aromanticism is a spectrum, an umbrella, and a shield. If the label feels right, use it.
Screenshot of a picture posted on Instagram by the user letsbeperfectlyqueerpodcast. The picture states: Asexual vs Aromantic Asexual means someone experiences little to no sexual attraction. Aromantic means someone experiences little to no romantic attraction. Some people identify as both (AroAce), while others may be just one. For example, an asexual person might still want a romantic relationship without sex, while an aromantic person might not seek romantic relationships but still have deep friendships or other meaningful connections. Asexual people can absolutely experience love, connection, and closeness their relationships just might not center around sexual attraction. And some ace folks may still choose to take part in sexual activity for different personal reasons.
Picture with red paper hearts clipped to a rope on top and below it says Amatonormativity is Bullshit Romantic relationships are not necessary for a fulfilling human life. They're nice, sure, if you want them. But they do not define one's worth in the world or one's worth to other people.

Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week is February 15-21, 2026 this year. And Aromantic Visibility Day is June 5, 2026. I'll be keeping an eye on those, considering that I am aromantic and we're still a very misunderstood segment of the LGBTQIA+ community. #Aromanticism #LGBTsky
But we can still:
- reflect on why these narratives feel so comforting to us
- question the hidden assumptions in the stories they tell
- be aware of their problematic bits

Love a video that not only discusses in depth what #aromanticism is but also why society's prioritisation of romantic relationships over every other kind of relationship sucks so much, not only for aro/aspec people but ultimately everyone 👏

Read @lukebrunning.bsky.social‘s take on why it is important to have a research network for #asexuality and #aromanticism here 👇
“I believe #aromanticism and #asexuality have an important role to play in how we think about love, sexuality and relationships. But I found it hard to find research and others working on these topics. So I set up the network to build a supportive research community and collaborate with others.“
#asexuality and #aromanticism are often misunderstood and the terms are complex to describe the distinct experiences of aro/ace people.
Here are some definitions as a starting point:

We are thrilled to introduce the Aromanticism & Asexuality Research Network this #AceWeek! The network is based at @clsrleeds.bsky.social in the UK and brings together researchers who are working on #asexuality and #aromanticism.

Really great video overall but the survey correspondents shown throughout are especially helpful in being able to see someone and go "Wow, I completely understand". It's rough out here, so it's nice just being able to hear from similar folk, y'know?
