"Aromantic Awareness Week" in capitalised serif font with a black arrow underneath. The date range is February 16 to February 22. A dark skinned hand holding the aromantic Pride flag. The black SSU logo and Sheridan Pride Club logo are on the bottom right.
Green capitalised heading "What is aromanticism?" The following black text reads, "'Aromantic' refers to experiencing little to no romantic attraction towards any gender. Like asexuality, 'aromantic' as a romantic orientation is a spectrum. Some aromantic-spectrum identities inclure grey-aromantic, demiromantic, and aroflux. Despite this aforementioned similarity, aromanticism is not interchangeable with asexuality." A graphic of a plant is on the bottom left.
Green capitalised heading "Amatonormativity." The following black text reads, "Coined by Elizabeth Brake in her book Minimizing Marriage: Marriage, Morality, and the Law, amatonormativity is the societal norm where everyone expects each other to pursue monogamous marriages between a man and a woman. It upholds the assumption that this relationship model is the most important in human civilisation. Aromantic people ('aros') are most marginalised by amatonormativity. Many aros don't want to marry and have a 'traditional' family. Despite the marginalisation of aros, amatonormativity affects everyone. Amatonormativity thrives on the current systems we have today, notably capitalism and individualism. The commercialisation of Valentine's Day is an example." A picture of a light skinned masculine-presenting and a feminine-presenting person in wedding attire, next to a big graphic of a golden heart wedding ring.
Green capitalised heading "Aro Stats." The following black text reads, "Over two-thirds of aromantics are also asexual. Aro aces typically overrepresent the lived experiences of aro community members. In the 2020 Aro Census, out of 9,758 respondents, almost one-third are Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour. While majority of aros are single, there are small percentages of aros who have romantic and/or sexual partnerships (a little under 10%). Arrows in the aromantic flag colours point to the viewer's right. The other half of the golden wedding rings sit on the bottom left corner. A green and grey bar graph shows an upward trend on the bottom right.
It is Aromantic Awareness Week! 💚🤍🩶🖤 With the passing of Valentine's Day & Family Day around the corner, we remind ourselves that all social relationships are important! We live in a society. (1/2)
