A guide created by me, ShivaSenpai, showing how I draw braids. Text reads How I Draw Braids by ShivaSenpai 1.) Draw a line of movement that dictates the flow of the braid. 2.) Imagine 3D hearts and draw them stacked on each other to form chain while keeping movement line in center. 3.) Erase the upper portions of the hearts where they overlap. 4.) Draw lines curving inwards near the center of the movement line. You could stop here to keep it simpler, but I like to add a few more details. 5.) Erase lines that connect near the center to make it look more like they're woven into each other. 6.) Draw lines that curve towards the center to resemble strands of hair. Close off the braid however you wish. I like to make mine look similar to paintbrush tips.

Nothing fancy, but put together a little guide on how I draw braids.

"[South Asian + Southwest Asian Features] Please note this is not a comprehensive list! but rather a compilation of what I have observed while drawing and within my own family. I am punjabi, most punjabi people are from north India + Pakistan and so they have both South Asian and Southwest Asian features. Because of this, we can look very diverse! (the image shows two faces with varying features and a check mark next to both) Both arew punjabi. The left has more southwest asian features while the right has more south asian features.

[Deep-set eyes] (The image shows a set of eyes, one with double lids and one with triple lids. An arrow points to the triple lid.) I have this one. Many SA + SWA people have naturally deep-set eyes. This results in very prominent eyelid creases above AND below. Deep set eyes are also called "hooded eyes" because the upper skin tends to droop down over this space. (A comparison drawing is shown of a face in side profile with shallow set and deep set eyes. Another diagram shows the eyeball in the socket and the skin around it with the fatty upper eye area puffing out slightly.)

Colours. A palette of colours is shown in a row, next to them are the labels "skin, eyes, hair". Below is a table of eyes and eyebrows displaying various combinations. Three are labelled "My dad" "My cousin" and "Grandma (Dad's Side)" respectively. The next row says "More examples I have seen." Although dark brown eyes are the most common, other eye colours show up too.

[hyperpigmentation] Hyperpigmentation is when areas of skin are darker than the rest. Many SA + SWA people experience this, those with light AND dark skin, especially around the eyes in the form of dark circles. (An illustration shows eyes with and without hyperpigmentation.) Because many people already have deep set eyes that are shadowed, the result often makes the surrounding eye area quite dark. A lot of comments about if I sleep enough or that my stare can be a little scary or just a bit intense. (A diagram shows eyes labelled "bare" and "applied", one without any makeup and the right with black makeup in the waterline.) Traditionally wear black eyeliner (surma/kajal/kohl) for special occasions or as a medicine.
