Text from a newspaper article. The headline: Autism grant plea For many parents of children with autism, ADHD and other neurodivergences, and, of course, adults, it can be a struggle both inside and outside of the home with sensory overload. With this in mind, I was thrilled to read €16m will be allocated to the Cork councils, for older people, and people with disabilities, to adapt their living space to their requirements. Jerry Buttimer TD is correct in saying this national funding for the Home Adaption Grant is crucial to support older, and disabled people. Checking both the City and County Council websites, however, Home Adaption Grants are not available for people with neurodivergences, to help them with their sensory needs. When the State claims to want people to maintain independent living, and to meaningfully contribute to to Irish society - valuable, caring, hard-working people - why are these supports not open to those with autism, ADHD, and other sensory issues, to help them find some much deserved respite in their own homes? My writing published in the local newspaper, The Echo, about supports available to people with sensory needs.
It might not change anything but maybe it starts people talking. 🌈 #SpeirGorm #Autism #AsIAm @social-democrats.bsky.social @corkgreens.bsky.social @cllrhonorekamegni.bsky.social @oliver.ie
