🌎 Cooper's Hawk (Astur cooperii) The Cooper's Hawk is a medium-sized bird of prey with short, rounded wings and a long, barred tail. Adults are blue-gray above with rufous barring below, and have red eyes. It is widely distributed across North America, breeding from southern Canada to Mexico, and can be found in woodlands and increasingly suburban areas. Its behavior is characterized by stealth hunting, flying with rapid wingbeats and short glides, using agility to pursue smaller birds through dense vegetation.
