I've just seen that I can register a 50km ride as an Audax UK DIY ride.
So that's something to aim at.
I knew I had life membership for something other than the excellent magazine.

Doing audaxes is why the CycleStreets app on Android defaulted to kilometres, and once I'd written the sat nav it said "Arrivée" and not something like "you have reached your destination.

I haven't ridden an Audax for a few years but I'm still a member of AUK and love the members magazine. Every ride report is either "I had a lovely day out on my bike" or "I suffered a physical and emotional crisis on this ride".

This morning after escaping Watford I was meeting a friend back in Windsor, but as I was up at 6am I had time to kill before our rendezvous at 11. Avoiding London's orbital car park I found myself in Chalfont St Peter.
I'd not been before but the name was somehow familiar.

After missing Ken's Autumn Colours today, I'm going to ride it as a DIY tomorrow.
This will then be validated, providing I can work out how to upload my gpx file.
