People who live close to the coast can often find penguins nesting underneath their porches. They are delightful creatures! #newzealandbirds #australianbirds
Think you’ve got moves on the dancefloor? duwuduwu (Victoria’s riflebird, Yidinji) might have you beat.
Protecting Queensland’s forests and bushland means protecting incredible performers like this, and the wild stages they appear on.

Close-up portrait of an Australasian Swamphen facing left. Its body is covered in rich, deep blue feathers, while the head and nape are jet black. The bill is large and hooked, bright red-pink, with a prominent red frontal shield extending up the forehead. A small, vivid red eye is visible against the dark head. The background is a soft blur of pale green foliage.

Two Galahs facing right, white cap, pink body and grey wings. Standing on Grass in the park.
A couple of galahs out in the park looking for seeds, a bit unfocused as they were exceeding my lens capacity.
They were a happy relaxed couple.

A white-faced heron walks along the top of a concrete wall (out of view). It's a graceful grey bird with the distinctive long neck and sharp, straight beak of a heron. It has a pure white face and upper throat. Its long beak is black. It has two bright yellow legs visible. In the background is the blurry water and rippled reflection of the reeds and trees at the edge of the pond. The heron has a very visible yellow eye with a black pupil. On this morning, the water of the pond was clearer than I've seen it, and this heron was already starting to head closer to the water to see what it could catch in the early morning sunlight.
Another morning at a pond, another lovely photograph of a very photogenic White-faced Heron. #AustralianBirds #photography

A Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia) perched on a thick, textured tree branch surrounded by a tangle of bare and leafy branches with a soft green bokeh background. The bird is entirely white with long dark grey-black legs and a long, flat, spatula-shaped black bill, the distinctive feature of the species. Its head is angled downward and slightly forward, with a small vivid red-orange eye visible. Fine wispy plumes are visible at the back of the head and chest. The bird is facing left, standing upright on both feet, with its body in sharp focus against the blurred green foliage behind it.

Yesterday we were blessed by the presence of this beautiful Anhinga, aka Australasian Darter. This is a young male, I am guessing he flew up from the river for a little wander and look around 👀 (apologies for terrible video quality, seems to have been cut off in the upload?) #australianbirds

A wide shot of a Little Pied Cormorant perched on a small, weathered wooden stump protruding from a calm river. Next to the bird is a larger, thicker dead tree trunk also emerging from the water. The water has a slight ripple and reflects the light brown and green tones of the distant bank. The riverbank in the background is covered in dry grass and low lying shrubs. The overall colour palette is muted with earthy tones of brown, tan, and soft blue grey.

A Superb Fairywren male is perched on a branch surrounded by bright green leaves with serrated edges. He's looking to the left of the photo. He's a dull brown, almost entirely round bird (a borb, if you will). His underside is paler grey. He has a short dark beak and a dark eye. Behind him, his long, thin, perky tale is dark blue. His very thin legs and feet are brownish orange. I'm always grateful when a Little Brown Bird stays still long enough for me to focus and take a clear shot. There are many different species of tiny birds in the environment near me, and their only defence is to move very quickly and be very wary of any changes to their environment.
It’s the time of year when Superb Fairywrens lose their breeding plumage so now the males are quite dull brown with only their blue tails to give away their previous bright colouring. #photography #AustralianBirds
