‼️ Bills are set to rise more than £350 this year, while Universal Credit will only rise by around £80.

People turn to food banks when they can’t cover the cost of essentials.

Rising bills and failing social security risk pushing more people to food banks. #AwfulApril

Bills increasing across the board for millions today - and speaking to our political
editor Beth Rigby, the prime minister admitted that *for most people, they would
say the cost of living crisis is ongoing and they feel the pressure financially”.
Sir Keir Starmer continued: “That's why it's so important that we make good on our
pledge that people would feel better off, and the national living wage going up.
today by an average of £1400 is going to affect millions of people.”
The PM also pointed to interest rates coming down, and wages rising more quickly
‘than prices.
"| acknowledge that with bills coming in, people see that rise and that is a
pressure,” the PM added. "So we're bearing down on this."
The Office for Budget Responsibility has said things will get harder for the public
before they get better, and the PM replied: "| am not going to stand here and say
people don't feel the impact of bills. OF course they do. | understand that.
"The question is, are we making them feel better off? And that's why the national
living wage [increase] today is so important.”

It really is #AwfulApril for people on low incomes. Already so many facing hunger & hardship, now bills shooting up by far more than inflation, whilst Universal Credit only rises 1.7%. We need urgent action - social security that at least covers the cost of essentials.

#AwfulApril for sure. Southern Water 47% up. Everything is rocketing in price yet Labour decide it’s a great time to cut #disabilitybenefits The 1.7% increase to benefits this year doesn’t cover the utility bill increases, let alone food going up. Next it will be poorhouses are morally right 🤬 ♿️

🚨 Not an April Fools joke: Household bills are going up by more than inflation (2.8%), while social security support rises by JUST 1.7%.

People are already struggling. More people will be at risk of needing a food bank.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The government CAN change this. #AwfulApril

Happy #AwfulApril everyone 🙃

Energy bills ⬆️ to nearly £2k
Water bills ⬆️ 31% in some areas
Basic food prices 📈

All affect the poorest worst.
All ON TOP of Govt cuts to support for pensioners, children, disabled people.

These are political choices. Labour could have chosen a #WealthTax

To get growth, money must be redistributed from those who don’t need it to those who do YouTube video by Richard J Murphy

When the majority of people have no spending power at all, then the economy will fail.

And with energy, water, council tax, broadband, vehicle excise, and TV licence all going up this month, it's obvious to everyone, except Rachel Reeves & Kier Starmer, that we've reached this point.

What utter tosh!

Because the personal allowance is frozen until, at least, 2028 more will be dragged into paying tax.

Because this month bills will be increasing for water, gas, electricity & council tax, it means everyone will be worse off!

It will be an #AwfulApril for many households!
