"Shadow Under an Ancient Eclipse" Acrylic on Black Canvas The painting depicts the North American Azhdarchidae, Quetzalcoatlus, as it flies under a total solar eclipse almost 66 million years ago. This creature's namesake, the Aztec Sun God of the same name, was often associated with the cycles of the Sun as well as solar eclipses. The animal is a large pterosaur, notable for its long neck and Beak in contrast to its short Stout body. Despite the sun being blocked by the moon, lights still permeates around the ring, partially Illuminating the skin membrane that makes up the animal's wings. Veins and arteries can also be clearly seen through the wing. Otherwise the rest of the body is draped in Shadow, with only a thin white outline to illuminate the animals silhouette.
