The Ikkanbari technique, originally a method of repairing broken baskets by pasting washi paper and reinforcing it with persimmon tannin or lacquer, has been passed down to the present day. It's a craft born from the Japanese tradition of cherishing tools & equipment.

Exciting discovery!
It is 10,000 years old and found at the Dead Sea in Israel.
The basket contained a small amount of dirt and the lid was closed.
Analysis of the contents is not yet completed.

I wove a birdhouse! After it dries I’ll polyurethane the entire thing. I hope after the scent wears off a bird will call it home. I’m thinking about mounting it in the corner of the fence so it’s protected against the wind and try to stabilize it. #basketry

A tall florist vase that has been woven in a twine weave with black and white cord. The rim is half round reed double lashed with fine black cane. The vase is sitting on the corner.
A look down into the vase. The base is cherry wood. In between the inside and outside rim is black dyed sea grass. The vase is sitting on the counter.
Flipping it upside down you can see the cherry wood and the start of the weave.
It’s finished! This was a fun project to work on. The hardest part was finishing the lashing and hiding the end! #basketry The last thing I want to do is polyurethane the base and rim. I’ll wrap the whole thing in paper and painters tape and hope it works 😁

Some great news! My grand plan is working, phew! I had the vase laying on a towel so I could get a tight weave going. Then my glue job onto the base popped. So I used gorilla glue and now I have to wait until tomorrow to continue. It’s all good though! My hands are fingers need a rest. #basketry
