Overshadowed by her hair barely contained within a red bandana, the top half of Klaire Lockheart’s head peeks into the lower left corner of this selfie, which features the concerned looking Aaron C Packard. Behind the couple is the Thunderdomesticity: Witness Me art installation of art prints wheat-pasted to the exterior orange wall at Fotolab No.7.

Under a gray cloudy sky and before the exterior the Bemis Center’s brick building, an artist snaps a selfie that only includes the top portion of her head in the lower right corner along along with a sliver of a profile of a photographer.

Within the crowded Norse Art Space, an art enthusiast barely makes it into her own selfie by only appearing in the lower left corner, but her suave companion is featured in the lower center of the frame.

Here are a few bad selfies with my favorite photographer from this year!

Starting Bid: $525. Buy It Now: $1,125. KLAIRE LOCKHEART is three raccoons in a trench coat masquerading as a painter from Vermillion, South Dakota. Lockheart uses oil paint and her snarky sense of humor to create absurd figure paintings so she can challenge traditional gender roles. After receiving the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant to paint dudes in man caves, Lockheart created these tiny oil sketches to prepare for larger compositions as part of her ongoing series of Brodalisques. These paintings of bros posed as odalisques have been published in New American Paintings, DailyArt Magazine, and Bird in Flight. Bro Sketch with Gold Curtain is one of the little dudes I made while plotting out compositions for larger paintings. This small sketch is going to be included in the Bemis Center’s 2025 Benefit Art Auction.

Within her South Dakota painting studio, a contemporary artist holds aloft a wee little oil sketch of a dude posed like the Grande Odalisque, but he’s wearing red shorts and a furry hat while holding a vintage video game controller.

I made Grande Bro Sketch with Atari last year in preparation for one of the paintings I created with support from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and now this small sketch will be part of the Bemis Center’s 2025 Benefit Art Auction.

In this photo, a joyful artist wants you to ignore the raw Sienna striped pants they’re wearing so you focus on the pair of small cardboard boxes they’re holding above their shoulders.
