Astarion recalls the office bathroom, modern and pristine but a lone toothbrush cup stands at the sink. Later, the bathroom is more messy, with more toiletries littering the sink area and small puddles around. The flashback ends, bringing back to modern Astarion and Riseheart still eating. [text] A: I took shorter lunch breaks to make sure I could meet the quota by day's end. But eventually, I ended up staying overnight. It seemed that everyone else started to follow, too. A: It was terrible. So any job compared to that is a godsend, honestly.

Riseheart only picks up his fork, after hearing Astarion's story, and forcibly moves a piece of chicken towards Astarion. He protests. [text] R: Then you should eat more. A: ? F1 AU Astarion and Riseheart are eating at the Bhaal Motorhome cafeteria. Astarion remarks on Riseheart's meal privilege, prompting Rise to ask about Astarion's past job. He chews on his fork, thinking back to his former shadowy employer. [text] A: This has to be the best job ever! / You have your own cafeteria / ...and can eat whenever you want! R: ...Was your previous job that restrictive? A: Yes. It was awful A: Back there, you are only given 1 hour of break time for lunch. But, bathroom breaks, exiting your station in general, counted against that time.

Astarion remembers the stress of working at his former company, with numerous surveillance systems (ID card reader, office cameras, recorded phone calls) in place making him feel trapped. [text] A: Everything was monitored, every second recorded against it. Your "break" was a lot smaller than you'd think.

Astarion recalls when he had to sleep under his desk, his employer looks over him. [text] A: Not to mention the overtime. A quota had to be met every day, and if I didn't, I was forced to stay to finish. Funny thing, none of the extra work changed my 1 hour break time.
