🧵 2 of 2 Traps didn’t contain any wasps:
* various Diptera,
* one ant (Lasius niger),
* one beetle,
* one Mymaridae (a tiny fairy fly/wasp),
* one Hemiptera (a true bug)
(Cue disappointed video)

@waspwoman.bsky.social I know negative data is important but it is not very exciting!
A now slightly sour lager baited trap sits next to a mini sieve. A microscope on the desk has a square petrified dish with the contents of the previous trap.
🧵 1 of 2 It’s the end of the week long sampling period for my wasp traps for the #bigwaspsurvey .
As the excitement builds I get the mini-sieve out to separate the inverts from the now slightly sour lager bait.

How are people getting on with their #bigwaspsurvey traps? Mine have been out 6 days so far & NO wasps (a few flies).
I know that negative data is important but it’s a bit disappointing!
I may try to ID the flies.

A beer baited bottle wasp sampling trap hangs from a lilac branch under an apple tree in the a shady location.
Phew, just managed to get both my traps out for the first session of the #bigwaspsurvey
Two traps in our relatively small garden. One under the pear tree in full sun for the second part of the day. The other in shade next to the bottom shed under an apple tree.

I took over a dozen pics of this frenetic wasp visiting the tiny flowers of common figwort. She would not sit still long enough to focus. Busy busy busy.
