Back to my normal shenanigans for #someonetowatchoverme . I just finished the sketches for Chapter 4, so here’s a peek at Ch. 5… challenging me with the backgrounds. When this one is done, all five will be sent to beta readers!

#bioniclethemanga was started back in like… 2004. It was restarted closer to 2010, with some redos in 2014 and then 2023.

#someonetowatchoverme was originally started in… 2007? 2008? And was put on hiatus around 2010 (online) because I had started college and I wanted to rewrite it.

Actually, a good number of my OCs in general do. They usually are earrings… I think Belial is the only one that has a nose piercing. But they usually range from studs to dangles lol

After about… almost two years, #bioniclethemanga chapter 8 has finished! Well… it finished for my KoFi subscribers. For everyone else, there’s 5 pages left.

Honestly, this is the fastest I’ve finished a weekly updating chapter of this length. 85 pages is long lol

I drew a lot traditionally until #bioniclethemanga started being posted online in like. 2006ish. But like, I enjoyed doodling, and I was always afraid of “wasting” supplies and when drawing traditionally, so having a digital program to color really was nice.

Villain (Teridax) looking downward with a scowl. His dark hair is disheveled and loose, his eyes wide with anger. He says, “I’ll bring them to you myself.” As for clothing, the only bits that the viewer can see is his dark grey collar and his dark, metallic shoulder pad.

The same picture, but drawn back in 2015. Instead of scowling, the villain smirks and looks upward. An off screen character says “It’s him… Teridax. He knows we are here.”

So a nice little comparison for you… this time between 2025 (left) and 2015 (right). Changed the text and then the lighting… and tried to make the villain more… villainous. In 2015, I had attempted to make all my pages done in a soft-shaded style… 🥲

#WIP Monday! Normally I would post this to my KoFi, but I am too amused with these (still). This is the upcoming redo for the third chapter of #bioniclethemanga (my humanized retelling of Bionicle). You can still read the OG version on my da or tumblr!

I have a folder/collection on my iPad of all the completed pages for #bioniclethemanga, and it always blows my mind of how colorful it can be, even if the palette is all the same. (Also blows my mind that there is close to 400 pages in this file…)

Gali runs to Onua, who is surprised to see both of them. He asks, “I thought you were helping Le-Koro?” Gali stops short of Onua, starting with she and Pohatu were helping out, only to pause and see that Onua is injured. Onua responds with that he’ll be okay, but he gestures toward Lewa, saying “I can’t say the same for Lewa…” Lewa pulls himself off the ground, saying “… how nice…”

Lewa continues with “… you led more Toa here… hehe… thank you, Onua… you made my job easier…” Lewa rises, his corrupted mask shifting between visible and not. Pohatu suggests that he rushes Lewa and pins him. Onua declines, saying that Pohatu should continue to help the trapped villagers. He delegates the same order to Gali…. But the three of them are interrupted by Lewa screaming “don’t… IGNORE ME.”

Lewa smashes down into Onua, who blocks the attack. He begs to Lewa to stop fighting them, and that he knows that this isn’t him. Lewa darkly responds to him, questioning if Onua truly knows what Lewa wants. Gali asks if Lewa really wants to hurt them.

Manga page; Onua falls to the ground after being stabbed. Lewa aims his sights on Matau and the remaining Le-matoran. As he flies toward them, he is abruptly stopped by a pillar of rock, made by Onua.

Manga page. Lewa tries to redirect his attack to Onua, who blocks him and slams him into the ground. He asks how to return Lewa to normal.

Lewa flips Onua over, who rolls back over and throws Lewa over the edge of a ledge. Lewa falls. Onua pushes himself up off the ground.

Thought I’d give you a preview of the updated cover for Chapter 3. While the newer one isn’t complete yet, I just kinda wanted to show (roughly) a 10-11 year difference!

I’m not sure about the effects I have on the new one, so I put it aside and went to ink pages

It’s doodle time!

Onua suddenly bursts through the nest wall.

Onua,shocked and concerned to see Lewa, says “Lewa? What… are you doing?” Lewa replies with “Oh, it’s you—“ Lewa suddenly falters as if he is shocked. He drops Takua and reaches out to Onua saying “O… Onua?”

Lewa looks overwhelmed with joy, but still crazed, and says “Onua?! You’re alive! Oh, that is such a relief… I’m so happy… I thought— no, we thought you died from that fall.” Onua, concerned, responds to Lewa, asking him what he is talking about. Lewa looks to be consumed by “infection,” and says that now he can unalive him. Onua takes a defensive stance and tells him that he’s not going to allow Lewa to hurt anyone.

Onua reminds Lewa that it is time to go. Lewa responds saying that leaving is not an option and that he doesn’t intend to return to the surface. Onua tells Lewa, while calling forward his claws and element of earth that he doesn’t want to use force against him. Lewa springs into action toward Lewa, a green mask called Miru covering his face.

Ka, the purple gukko bird, appears to be cut and crash lands ont the ground. Kongu (teal hair in a ponytail, tan skin, mixed-green outfit) tells Takua (blond hair, light blue googles on eyes, red arm bracers) to brace for impact as they hit the ground. Kongu tells Ka that everything is going to be okay and that he will be healed once they return to Le-Koro (home to all Le-matoran). Takua exclaims what hit them.

Kongu asks Takua if he’s okay, to which Takua responds with asking if he and Ka are okay. Kongu notices that the other gukko birds landed close to where other le-matoran are. Kongu looks relieved to see that the village is okay, despite being in the nest of the nui rama. But their joy is short lived when something crashes down in front of them.

Lewa (taller, spikey green haired character with shaded eyes, dark, olive green outfit with yellow and purple accents), emerges from the dust cloud, saying that he’s been expecting Kongu. He notices Takua, saying that it is nice to see him to. In the bottom right panel, Lewa asks Takua if he’s playing the hero. He zooms close to his face, looking unphased (and Takua looking spooked), saying that Takua only brings death to the places around him.

Kongu, looked scared and nervous, tried to tell Lewa that they are all friends. Lewa holds a black, blobby blade at Takua’s back. Lewa scoffs, asking, “Friends?” He points the blade at Kongu, right under his chin, and smiles. He says that he has no need for friends, just power. He looks back at Takua and scowls, telling him that he threatens all of that.

Manga format page. Yuusei (long, dark green hair) runs to Matau (pale green mohawk) asking him for more water from le-Moro (home). Matau (reddish eyes) looks up to see a darkened figure standing on the edge of a higher platform. A nui rama flies about. Yuusei asks: Do you have any more for us to drink… who is up there? Matau responds with: I hope I’m wrong, but just in case… Yuusei. Yuusei: Yes?

Matau looks determined up at the higher platform. He tells Yuusei: I need you to gather all the le-matoran who are trapped down here and move to a safe location… I have a feeling things are gonna get rough down here. Yuusei looks taken aback, responding with: Turaga-elder— Matau turns and yells: HURRY!! The ground begins to shake violently. A le-matoran asks what is going on, and Matau responds with he will be there to help. Yuusei runs back to where he came from. The last panel looks at the ceiling where an exit for the nui rama is. The nest continues to shake and buzzing can be heard.

Suddenly, three gukko birds and their warriors (the Gukko Force) erupts from that exit, throwing disks at the nui rama. They have hit two or three so far. The Le-matoran and Matau look upward, relieved to see their friends.

Kongu (bright teal hair) flies on aka (black and purple gukko bird with metal armor and disk launchers) with Takua (blond hair, goggles pulled over eyes). Kongu looks backwards to tell Takua: Alright, we gotta move rapid-fast! Grab someone and— Matau is cut off as something slashes Aka. Blood splatters in Kongu’s face, as he looks fearful and alarmed.

At least for #bioniclethemanga, it’s turned into something that I genuinely like to work on!

#bioniclethemanga is the longest project I've had, which I started in high school (I'm in my 30s now, for the record). It is based on the 2001 arc of Bionicle, just set in a humanized world and a general retelling of events, and follows the Toa Mata as they try and save Mata Nui the first time.

So I will probably continue to pivot between this new story and #atasteofpoison for a little while (and #bioniclethemanga ). But I need some thoughts... what should I name this new story?

Check out the thread to see the synopsis and some ideas that I have so far, but you are free to suggest!

Webcomic. Manga style. Five characters talking. Takes place in a tree village. Characters are talking about how the village was attacked.

Webcomic, manga style. Just as a villager in the tree village was asking for help, the village shakes violently. Pohatu (character in brown) tells Gali (character in blue) that once they help the village, they are going to help their friend in another location.

Webcomic, manga style. A character is mining the side of a rocky cavern. The trapped villagers look up suddenly to hear buzzing. The villagers wonder if they are ever going to get out of the cave. Taipu (the miner) is not from this village and wonders why he was brought into the cave. He wonders if his friend is okay.

Matau (in green) approaches Taipu (the miner) and tells him he needs to slow down. Matau comments that he may not be able to hold down the rate of a curse.
