Poster for the Western adventure film 'Bite the Bullet' (1975). Directed by Richard Brooks. Starring Gene Hackman, James Coburn, Candice Bergen, Ian Bannen, Jan-Michael Vincent, Ben Johnson and Dabney Coleman.
On top of the poster the tagline "In the tradition of Shane and High Noon, a new Western Classic is born! BITE THE BULLET". Underneath it an illustration of a bunch of people on horseback galloping ahead of a steam locomotive. An early 20th century motorcycle with a sidecar on the right edge of the illustration.
Collage of three frames from the Western adventure film 'Bite the Bullet' (1975).
On top: A man on horseback with his back to the camera in a desert. Sand dunes in the background.
In the middle: Two riders going down a sandy hill with large boulders/rock formations on either side. First rider in the middle of the hill looking back over his shoulder. The second one at the top of the hill.
At the bottom: The finish line of the horse race on a rail yard. Line of spectators on both sides. A banner with the text "700 Mile Endurance Race - $2000 Prize - Best in the West Is Best in the World" hanging across the yard. A train standing behind the finish line with two people (woman and man) standing on the back of the last railway carriage. Another person standing next it on the ground.
๐ On paper #BiteTheBullet seemed right up my alley. Epic western adventure. But didn't end up tickling my fancy. Sure it's got a renowned cast with plenty of vast rugged landscape. But too long with a completely pointless plot line in the final act. Relies too much solely on western romanticism. ๐ฝ๏ธ๐๏ธ
