BOYCOTT COMPLICIT ASSOCIATIONS
The most violent response to our reasonable nonviolent demands came from the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA). In response to 1200 signatures from archaeologists worldwide, and in response to the Executive Board’s democratic vote to implement a measure already in place for removal of Russian and Belarusian affiliations, the EAA president, Eszter Banffy reportedly provoked a rapid and rabid onslaught of threatening emails to Executive Board members.
In shielding apartheid Israel from the consequences of their ongoing war crimes against Palestinians, EAA leadership ignored the views of hundreds of members, undermined the democratic decisions of the Association, exposed the Executive Board to an orchestrated intimidation campaign, made an inappropriate reference to collective punishment of Israeli conference participants, demanded local conference organisers enforce authoritarian censorship, tried to browbeat conference participants into silence, twisted facts in order to misrepresent events, and completely destroyed the reputation and credibility of the Association.
