Some morning exercise #paddling up river on the #BrazosRiver, at HWY 290 near Hempstead TX. The river is returning to it's average low after being heavily inundated with rain through the year.
Broke in the #wenonah #canoe and received a proper #brazosriver baptizing. It's an easy 15 mile stretch in Waller County TX.
Jugs worked great, the boat is so light the wind pushes me around, and torrential rain unsurprisingly fills the canoe.l quite quickly.

A beautiful sandstone or mudstone wall I never get to see eye to eye because I'm often 30 ft below it. The #BrazosRiver is flooded giving me a rare opportunity to get up close while #kayaking. You can also hear what I think is a haunting owl call.
Everything is flooded in my area so I can paddle creeks I can't normally; I think I missed the fun water by about 12 hours in this location. I brought my helmet and WW #kayaking gear just in case. Turned into a lazy paddle except for the last .8 miles down the flooded #BrazosRiver
The #brazosriver is still flooded ( lower brazos ), dam releases are still happening up river.
This is a 6 mile paddle between 1458 and I-10 starting in San Felipe Texas.
@tippy3880.bsky.social got to experience the Brazos in a rare way and she did well in the heavy and quickly moving current.

River is flooded from rain and dam releases, I'm really impressed with how good I've become at predicting the river levels and timing.
A #beaver gave me a tail slap warning yesterday when my #kayak came to close. This was the Brazos river in Waller County Texas from 290 to 159; it's approximately 200% higher than normal due to dam releases and rain upriver.

It's that time of the year where Texans go crazy for Blue Bonnets, paddled early in the morning before the wind picked up.
Saw an eagle and deer.
The #brazosriver has high banks and the wind can dive down into the basin with ferocity. Some areas of the river are so wide that white caps can easily form and capsize your kayak. Standing on an inflatable SUP in it is precarious.
All the same good paddle.
My #BrazosRiver ( lower ) is muddy and silty, but it's my river. No #kayak today, just getting some practice on the #SUP
I can't explain what it does to my mind; I get off the water renewed every time. It's an escape that recreational substances can only hint at.
