I needed a couple of final slide photos for my 25 April Brontë talk for the Society of Genealogists. A perfect excuse to pop across to Haworth.

Working on the final iteration of slides & notes this week for my #Brontë #FamilyHistory themed @sogorg.bsky.social online talk on 25 April. I may just share my Brontë connections quest outcome! And, bonus, I should be over my Covid this week & able to sneak in another Haworth visit!
A very local stop off this morning in search of my Brontë history links. This was Roe Head, the school attended by the Brontë sisters, and where Charlotte went on to teach.

Die #ARD- Audiothek ist voller #Austen und #Brontë. Zu Ostern wurde das dreiteilige #Hörspiel von #JaneAusten s #StolzUndVorurteil wieder ins Programm genommen. Sehr unterhaltsam. Viel Spaß beim Hören!

Today I’m working on my 25 April SoG Brontë talk about finding connections for family history researchers. It’s looking like a case of working out what to leave out!

Easter Monday in Haworth - steam trains & Brontë history including a ‘Banksy’ type piece of wall art from last year’s Bradford City of Culture

My latest blog post is about a unique literary history location in West Yorkshire, pivotal to the lives of the Brontë Sisters. You can even sleep in the same room the sisters slept in over 2 centuries ago.

If you’re looking for an Easter outing I can recommend a unique literary history location in West Yorkshire, pivotal to the lives of the Brontë Sisters. It’s not Haworth, though you could easily combine both in a day

This is the first film ever made by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of Project Hail Mary. The fake commercial was made in 1998 for a series of educational shorts about action toys based on historical figures. It was never aired.

Another visit this morning to Thornton, the birthplace of Charlotte, Emily & Anne Brontë. The house, with such a central role in this country’s literary history, is a must for any Brontë enthusiasts. It’s near #Haworth, so easy to combine the two. #Thornton #BrontëSisters #Brontë #WestYorkshire
📖 #OTD in the #History of #Literature 12 March 1837, the British poet laureate #RobertSouthey wrote in reply to #CharlotteBrontë (20), charmingly informing her that "Literature cannot be the business of a woman's life, and it ought not to be." Thankfully, #Brontë had resolve.
It’s happening on 25 April.

Charlotte Bronte's pencil portrait of her sister Anne, 1833. Anne would later write the novel 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall'. Published in 1848, Anne used the pseudonym Acton Bell to avoid preconceptions and prejudices about women's work #WomensArt@womenart.bsky.social #Brontë #Art

Tom Lowe lampoons Fennell’s Wuthering Heights as an oversexualised castration of Brontë’s complexity, robbing it of all which made it valuable to a Victorian age as riven by (class) war as our own.

Visited the #Thornton house where the Brontë sisters were born (& probably conceived!) The local community bought it & it opened as a museum last year, a fab local history initiative. Brilliant tour, can recommend. Also saw the Bell Chapel ruins & baptismal font

Couldn’t resist this. Some ideas for local Brontë themed walks…when it stops raining!

A superb evening @bibsoc.bsky.social learning about the early print editions of the works of the #Brontë sisters. Thanks to all involved.
Unpopular opinion from someone who is otherwise an avid Brontë fan: "Wuthering Heights" is a thoroughly unpleasant novel and any movie made from it is bound to suck. #IsaidwhatIsaid #Brontë #WutheringHeights
A morning walk round Hightown and Hartshead. Someone lost their head, and my attempt at snapping #Quaker headstones had an unusual photobomber. Some #Brontë history thrown in given Wuthering Heights mania. And who doesn’t love a bit of Robin Hood arrow legend too.

Taking The Man in the Stone Cottage to the historic Brontë Birthplace in Thornton - where the Brontë Sisters were born!
Such a fascinating, enriching space, and where the Brontë Sisters' own story began!

A colour photo of an orange with a green apple behind it (Wikimedia Commons). The orange has big cartoon eyes and a goofy expression, the apple has emoji eyes, a straight monobrow, and an irritated expression. The orange is saying “We’re both edible?”. The apple is thinking “We’re both fruit, dumbass.”. Apples and oranges: not alike in most ways!

Comparing Jane Austen to Charlotte Brontë is like comparing Evelyn Waugh to John Steinbeck.
Gotta give the ladies props for still being popular 200+ yrs later, though.
