dressed them in the winter jacket I mentioned (matching!! Kazuma insisted) and Kazuma is wearing the comfy jays sweater I got 🍁😀

Kazuma says “Is that the brooch?” and barok says “...so it may seem. However (whisper)” The next frame shows a brooch with a red jewel that barok is holding. Barok is saying “...this bag has been tampered with…” kazuma replies with “eh…? Really?” and barok replies with “Mr Asougi, Please get detective lestrade.” The next frame shows kazuma and gina in a more chibi/playful style. Kazuma is shouting “OIII GINAAA!!!!!!!” and gina comes barging through the door dramatically saying “KAZ HOLY FUCK”. Toby is at her side looking determined. A bailiff beside her looks terrified. Barok looks embarrassed and is shouting their names at both of them. The next frame shows barok with his hair messy, and kazuma leaning over to talk to toby. Barok is saying “This is a crime scene, Detective. Please refrain from further decimating it. (mumble) …my ears are ringing” The next frame shows barok holding out the brooch to Gina. Kazuma is now holding toby and smiling cutely. Barok is distracted momentarily saying “please verify–ah–the validity of this brooch.”

The first frame has gina inspecting the brooch beside kazuma, who is still holding toby. 2 cops are standing beside them looking unsure. One is taller than the other. The taller one is saying “is she even qualified? (whisper) how would she even know its a fake? How old is she again?” the shorter cop is saying “Shh!! Watch your mouth! Lord van zieks favors her, especially after Gregon’s pas–” the words STEP STEP cover up the last of the speech bubble. In the next frame, barok is staring the taller cop down intimidatingly. He is saying “Is there a problem?” (problem is underlined). The cop replies, looking very nervous, “N-none sir!” The next frame shows only barok’s eyes, surrounded by his dialogue. It reads “Do not look down upon any member of our investigation team; every person is here for a reason. I would entrust no one more than the detective to verify the legitimacy of the brooch. Especially with a tamered evidence bag. That YOU were in charge of.” The next frame continues with barok’s dialogue, and shows the cop’s nervous face. “Do remember this, officer: Detective lestrade has valuable knowledge and prowess when identifying precious gems and metals. Detective lestrade has been critical for our investigations. Treat her with the proper respect.” A speech bubble is below it that says “umm…” In the next frame, gina can be seen holding up the brooch. She is saying. “Well, metal scratches around the fittings. Gem’s cut is all wrong.” The next frame shows the cops looking nervous and shocked. Barok looks annoyed. Gina says “it’s a fake.” (fake is underlined) The next frame shows the taller cop looking even more nervous as barok calls for kazuma. In the next frame, kazuma is apprehending the taller cop, who is saying “hrrrgk”. Kazuma is saying “yep. Cuff him, gina.” gina is beside him saying “nice job, Kaz!”

The first frame shows barok with his arms crossed looking annoyed. There is a thought bubble beside him that says “more paperwork…” kazuma has restrained the taller cop, who is now crying. Gina is pointing and yelling at him. “YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE IN CHARGE OF SECURING THE EVIDENCE! WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT??” and kazuma is saying “you tell him gina!” The next frame shows gina next to barok. Kazuma can be seen in the distance putting the accused cop into a carriage. Gina is saying “Ehm… prosecutor van zieks!!” and barok replies “hm?” The next frame shows gina embarrassed and pulling her cap over her eyes. She’s saying, “I wanted to, uh… …thank you for what you said back there. …it means a lot. I know i have loads to learn to keep up with you and kaz but–” Barok interrupts by saying “Detective lestrade.” The next frame shows barok. He is saying “every case is a clean slate for all of us involved. Every person has something they can bring to the table. We all benefit if we have one goal in mind: pursuing the truth.” The next frame shows gina looking about to cry. Barok is saying “you are critical to our team. Do not doubt your worth. Gregson picked you for a reason.” The last frame shows the top of gina’s head in profile, and the bottom of barok’s face in profile. Gina is saying “...I miss him.” and barok is saying (softly) “I as well.”

Comic for bvzmonthly, page 1 At 221b... Iris looks curiously up at kazuma while holding a bag, "oh, zuzu! Can you deliver this to uncle Barry?" Kazuma regards iris, replying "oh? Of course, iris." Iris takes the item out of the bag she's holding revealing a soft purple bat. Kazuma: "a bat plush"? Iris: "it's also a heat pack!" Kazuma is cradling the bat in his arms, enamored and cooing over it. Iris: "uncle Barry can use this to smooth his ribs... I wrote instructions!" Kazuma: " it's really cute, iris" Iris: "thanks!" Kazuma thinks to himself "I've GOT to see his reaction to this..." A bit later... Kazuma is in baroks home office, wiping sweat from his brow with an armful of papers. There is a book and some papers on the desk, with a note on the papers. He mutters "whew. Got the reports and tidied it all back up." Kazuma thinks to himself "I should check up on lord van zieks... after fracturing two of his ribs, he's been recovering in bed, strict iris orders."

Kazuma enters Barok's bedroom "excu-- oh, lord van zieks? Did you get any sleep while I was out?" Barok sits on his bed, looking tired and out of it: "hello, Mr. Asougi. Not a wink, I'm afraid. "Anything you need me to review?" Barok mumbles to himself, "...bit at my wits end..." Kazuma thinks "oh dear..." Kazuma unties his cravat while holding his paper stack, asking "how are you feeling? Still painful?" Barok sighs while reading some of the papers kazuma brought, "haaahhh... better but sore. I hate taking laudanum..." Kazuma has an idea, a lightbulb springing out as he cradles his paper stack, "ah! Might have just the thing for you." Barok is confused in response, while kazuma thinks to himself "the gift!" 20 min later... Kazuma has returned, with barok asking "ah, Mr. Asougi... a ques--" Kazuma holds out the bat at barok, who exclaims surprised, "Wh-what is that?" Kazuma has placed the bat in the bed while leaning towards barok, hands on Barok's bed comforter, excitedly "A heat pack! It's soft and can help with the swelling and bruising." Barok interjects "...it's not neces--" as kazuma thinks "all according to keikaku (keikaku means plan)" Kazuma cuts off Barok's interjection with " it's a GIFT from IRIS. you know, your CARING NIECE. she also wanted to do a checkup and sleepover." Barok is stabbed with giant red arrows of guilt, labeled with IRIS, GIFT, CARING, and BAD UNCLE as Barok coughs up blood.

Panicked and shaking, barok weakly mumbles "w-wait... I'll use the bat.... please... Asougi.... listen...." as blood trickles from his mouth. Triumphantly, kazuma exclaims "good! I'll be back later with dinner." Later... Iris is walking alongside kazuma, who holds a tray of food under a cloche. Iris: "you're a good cook, zuzu! ...do you think uncle Barry is sleeping?" Kazuma: "haha, thank you. Well with any luck... hopefully." He thinks to himself "if he's not stubborn..." Both peek through Barok's door, hopeful, with them whispering "lord van zieks/uncle Barry?" Barok is asleep with the bat tucked under his arm Iris: oh! Kazuma: oh... let him rest, we'll come back later. Iris: okay! Kazuma thinks "sleep well, lord van zieks" Bonus: Barok is awake, eating dinner. The bat is in his lap. Kazuma sits in a chair next to the bed, with iris sitting on the bed itself with her backpack. Iris: I'll make more plushies for you, uncle Barry! Barok: ah... hey... Kazuma: perhaps a cat? Barok: wa-- Iris: good idea, zuzu!! Barok: uh... Aside: a big purple cat was delivered the following week. It's on Barok's bed.
