February 14, 2025. Apparently past me wasn't happy with this one when it came out, i was really excited by how smug the frog looked in the reference but thought it came out bad. In my current eyes, though, it looks great! What a smug looking frogge.

February 15, 2025. I really love how this frog looks, the fleshy bulb on his head is green, as opposed to his blue body, and it looks like he's got a leaf hat! I should've colored this one.

Frog description: A frog with a fleshy outcropping on the top of his head that looks very similar to a thick leaf, or perhaps a beret.

(A) Island connectivity with sea level change. Present-day emergent land is coloured for cluster membership inferred with DAPC (see B), and islands unsampled in this study are shown in white. Sampling localities are shown by green dots. Elevation (above sea level) is shown by contour lines (200 m spacing). Smaller islands (Ste. Anne and Curieuse) are circled for clarity. The grey shaded area represents exposed land, with the shade of grey in the key indicating metres below current sea level. Bathymetry data from the GEBCO 2024 repository. Inset map shows position of the Seychelles (indicated with a green loop) relative to Africa. Latitude and longitude given in decimal degrees. (B) DAPC of K = 4, with eight PCs and two eigenvalues. (C) Hypogeophis rostratus, photographed by STM.

The Second Species of Caecilian in China <p indent="0mm">A new unstriped Ichthyophis is found in Yunnan, China, it is distinguished from its unstriped congeners in morphology by a combination of characters including HL (head length), the number of annuli (369–372), vertebrae (114), inner mandibular teeth (36) and premaxillary-maxillary (51). The new species is also distinguished from its closest neighbour congener by a significant genetic divergence which is greater than 5.8% in the mitochondrial COI gene and greater than 6.3% in the mitochondrial cyt-b gene. As the first unstriped Ichthyophis species found in China, it is also the second species of Caecilians (Amphibian: Gymnophiona) found in China.</p> <?Pub Caret 25?>

There’re 224 species of caecilian (Gymnophiona) as of 31/DEC/2024 according to @AmphibiaWeb

Of the 88 new species of amphibians in 2024, just 2 were caecilians. Encouraging naturalists to get out there and dig; new species are waiting for you!
