"Pycnanthemum!" So fun to say. Exercises each part of the mouth. We have our own #Pycnanthemum #californicum over here in #CA, too! I had some growing in my little #riparian bed alongside the courtyard of our former home in #L.A. I'll have to research if yours grows in my birth state: #Louisiana.
Day 85 of #JRBPVirtualTour, Hillside #gooseberry (#Ribes #californicum), a #NorthAmerican species of #currant. #Endemic to #California and found in #chaparral and #woodland habitats. Mostly erect #shrub growing to a maximum height around 1.4 m.
The Yerba santa is native to California & Oregon, and is found in #chaparral & coast #redwood #forests. The dark green, leathery leaves are narrow and the #foliage & twigs are covered with shiny resin. It can often be found dusted with black #fungi: #Heterosporium #californicum
Day 26 of #JRBPVirtualTour! The #Yerbasanta (#Eriodictyon #californicum). The #yerba #santa (holy herb in English) was highly valued by many 3California tribes including the #Salinan, #Ohlone, #Miwok, #Pomo, and #Yokuts who continue to use it for various medicinal purposes.
