A snippet of my favourite bird sound anywhere...
This noisy nominate limosa was one of c25 seen in our two days around the Washes - this one on the Cambridgeshire side on Monday night, where godwit display calls filled the air ๐Ÿ™‚

Everyone needs some bugling Whooper Swans in their lives at the moment. Last night on the Ouse Washes, as the sun set, these marvellous birds just did their thing. Iceland awaits for these magical, stunningly graceful birds. Perfect...

What an incredible last two days ~ another fantastic annual early spring limosa top-up around the Fens: y'day it was Ouse Washes, today Welney & a minimum of 23 nominate birds logged plus well over 1100 islandicas. Highlight of 2026 so far.

Day off today and doing one of my favourite things - seeking out Whooper Swans in fields in the fens. Found over 2000 and managed a few ring-reads including, though many too distant to read colour-rings. Did some age ratios too. Great to see the swans back for winter.

My first visit to Burwell Fen. Definitely a place to revisit in the autumn when, hopefully, the migrant waders and SEOs return. Konik ponies (with Starlings), Whitethroat, Reed Warbler and Swallow. #Cambsbirding

Black headed Gull at Ouse Fen, apparently snacking on small flies. Hardly seems worth the energy involved for a bird this size... #cambsbirding

Possible the first time I have seen a Bittern in such an open space, at RSPB Ouse Fen today. One of at least two, as the other one was 'booming'. GRW was still singing but reluctant to show itself. #Cambsbirding

It's been over 10 years since we last visited the RSPB Ouse Washes and very impressed by the superb habitat there. Saw the female Red-footed Falcon from Cadbury Hide. Plenty of butterflies too, including Wall, Common Blue and Painted Lady #Cambsbirding

Some quality birding in Cambridgeshire over the weekend included Spotted Sandpiper at Grafham water, with Great Reed Warbler, and female Red Footed Falcon at Ouse Fen โ€“ record shots of the latter. #UKbirding #cambsbirding #rarebirds
