...Until I came across this pic, I hadn't contemplated a #lashunta might psychically bond with more than one shotalashu. This would make them more than a mere rider, put mistress of a whole pack. What prey would they seek together amid #Castrovel 's jungles?

Confused by this pic? Instead of hounds, imagine shotalashu. Considering they're grizzly size, this would become a formidable hunting party indeed...

My great-grandmother wore a bodyshroud wrapped skirtlike and knelt to brew tea. I followed to the hearth and knelt while I wondered why the Overmind chose her shape. Rightly I had grown on Eavol’s hero-tale as a Formian Myrmarch’s slayer. My name is even an overspell of hers. She had won our kindred’s stallworth, had forestepped the path for Efadi my grandmother’s matronhood and beyond to my mother’s uprisal, and also my sisters. Yet she had not started livelihood as a hallcraft-player and matron. Like me, she had first been an outrider.

I took the teacup she yielded, reckoning the Overmind wished my trust. Yet also the seldom forehap to speak with my dead great-grandmother swayed me.

Eavol took back the cup after I sipped. ~Yei vothauli ruthandi,~ she said: “So the forebode has come forth.”

I nodded, flitting between letting her speak and seeking deeper knowledge. If the yoretales are true, the Overmind had outlived since the City’s settleship twenty-four thousand years ago, had even outlived the first Soul-Tree’s death when Old Hanat had burned Son in the Time of the Warrior-Queens, and had been reborn from a cutting hidden by the priesthood. Awhim, I beseeched: ~Sheazya-shyae Aslantya tollaudya,~ - “Tell me of the elder Aslanta.”

My great-grandmother smiled. She told the Aslanta had been proud but couth, and outstanding traders. They had come with weird mightiness, both elfcraft and other weirdlore. They had brought wonderful gifts and had upheld Son’s elder empire for a bargain: Qabarat - or Kasrovelaryum as they had named it (and I reminded Brand had named our world Kasrovel), which they had settled as a colony to hold the Redqueen Worldgate. They had shown greedily heedful of anything linked to gatelore. Yet oddly, they had becomingly wielded a trucesome sway among the Warrior-Queens’ feuds. Then she added that, although their men had owned much foremostness, some Aslanta wives had owned weighty mightiness as well, even against Manright...

Today, and in share from my speech with the thriae, I did something I had ere much forethought. I went to Zotheiu’s Shrine in Greenmother’s Temple. Before the Soul-Tree’s roots, I beseeched the priests and treesingers to cleave the Overmind.

It had been fourteen years since I had last done, and the sake was rather same: the Aslanta. I dolefully outsought the yesterwhits taken from the mindseech Brand had undergone and any whits that may help us understand their world, from the stunted trees barely big enough to hold a single house to the queer dry-furrow bare-earth fields, like wounds open to the sky. I heard their barking Hyumanza speech and gleaned meaningfulness from Brand’s thoughts. I watched the many fights he had outlived, from backlane thieves, witsome smithcraft enginewights from a silver spire, and wild tusky heathens who looked half-Korasha, half-ape and would seemingly slay all. I tasted the odd meats and cakes as he uncouthly ate with hands or even stuck a knife in his mouth! And ale, so much ale!

Over and again I came back to the dream of his mother’s death and Brand’s murder of the haughty, sneering man who had slain her. This I bewared as his lifetime’s key, the deed that had both broken and shaped him. He had been a youth, and it had made him outlaw and wanderer, which had doubtlessly added to him becoming a pathfinder and, deeming some deeds else, sometimes a thief. Even so awful, much within his sorrow and anger I understood. When I felt his love’s strength for his mother, I could hardy believe his mind had never stemmed from hers…which raises so many asks about how hyumanza babes grow and learn speech.

Reckfully, there were also yesterwhits of wives (and Brand had surely loved wives, as I knew), which drew my heed, since among the hyumanza, Manright forecravingly owns foremostness. I watched that, though Brand had loved a few, most wives he had dallied under lust. More reckfully, many had seemingly enwed under fee. It seemed an odd trade...
