Last night I watched a movie which takes place in #Barcelona, #Spain. They speak Catalan and Spanish there. It was interesting how some actors spoke in #Catalan and others in #Spanish during some dialogues. Subtitles came in handy. The bilingual exchanges made the movie better and interesting.

So instead of using simple past, in #Catalan you can say:

vaig menjar - ‘I go eat’
meaning: ‘I ate’

It’s called the periphrastic past, and it’s unusual among Romance languages because it uses ‘go’ rather than ‘have’.
