Juvenile vs adult California condor (Gymnogyps californianus). Both photos taken at Pinnacles National Park on the San Benito County side. Gymnogyps comes from Ancient Greek: “gymnos” meaning “naked” or “bare” and “gyps” meaning “vulture.”

Happy November. Today I am sharing a juvenile and an adult California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) at Pinnacles National Park. The juvenile is outside the holding pen and the adult is inside. They are caught twice a year for health checks.

Let's start it the weekend with a turkey vulture (Cathartes aura). San Benito County, California. Fun facts: new world vultures are not related to hawks; they are more closely related to storks. They do not have a voice box and can only hiss and grunt.
