2025 in Review, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Use the Furry Tag
So 2025 was... a year...
I may not really mention politics on my feed much but I'm not gonna pretend this year wasn't twelve months of America's government going out of its way to piss off as many people as possible.
... But aside from that, 2025 was also the year I finally doubled-down on being a furry, complete with setting up a Fur Affinity gallery, made the move from Windows to Linux, and I think overall had a lot of growth for me as an artist. So I just want to take a look back at all that as we close the year.
Artwork of my fursona raising his hands in a grand gesture and smiling, with artwork of the original human design for Celeste next to her updated anthro crow design in the opposite corner. The text on the page reads as follows:
Well, let's get the big one out of the way...
I'm a furry~
While I think I started identifying as one at the tail-end of 2024, this year was really the big year for my "furry awakening," so to speak.
With that came actually using the furry tag and setting up a Fur Affinity gallery, and trying to get more into the community... as well as learning a lot of new, uh, terminology! Still, despite my blocklist of terms doubling in size, I am generally happier and more comfortable in my sense of self.
If that wasn't enough, I changed Celeste - a character I've been drawing for over a decade - into a bird. The world of Celectrique had always been me "excuse to draw furries without being a furry" anyway, so once I dropped that pretense, making her an anthro crow made sense. And genuinely, my favourite character design I've ever done. After a few more iterations and refinements, I couldn't be happier.
Artwork of my character slouched over, looking annoyed and psychically levitating a tablet pen, with a rough, unfinished figure sketch of Celeste without clothes yet looking at herself.
Celeste: "... Well, I guess I'm glad my body isn't just a vertical tube anymore..."
Kirby: "Would you PLEASE hold still?"
The text above them reads as follows:
I feel like I really made some strides in terms of my technical ability, as well. Which I'm chalking up to my overall... increased comfort in my identity, if that makes any sense?
I think also just working through my discomfort with figure drawings. I may not be interested in drawing NSFW media, but that doesn't change that the best way to learn how to draw clothed bodies is to learn how to draw unclothed bodies.
The way I've been putting it - you don't have to draw their bits, but you still gotta draw their tits.
Artwork of my fursona and my friend EPZ as the characters Chai and 808 from Hi-Fi RUSH, with my fursona matching Chai's key art and EPZ in 808's ball form. In the opposite corner, a drawing of my fursona standing in front of a computer monitor with the Linux penguin on it.
The text reads as follows:
I also played some amazing games on stream this year, with my favourite by far being Hi-Fi RUSH!
Alas, I never did get around to doing art streams, despite even going to all the trouble of programming my own PNGTuber and everything... maybe that'll change this year.
I also finally got around to uploading all the stream VODs to my YouTube channel! I'm all caught up to the last game I streamed, which is a relief.
And, of course, I finally made a full transition to Cinnamon Mint Linux! There were definitely a few roadbumps, but I'm very happy. I still do most of my drawing (including these) on my Android tablet, though.
I've got some plans in the works for 2026. Hopefully, despite the state of the world, I'll be able to keep growing as an artist and a person... and provide some cool stuff that brightens someone's day.
