He appears to have fallen asleep while reading Frank Herbert's final novel "Chapterhouse: Dune".

While I love the novel, I can see why the old man reads it in sections between naps.

I met #FrankHerbert briefly in March 1985, when he addressed the #BirminghamScienceFictionGroup during a promotional tour for #ChapterHouseDune. This was three months after #DavidLynch's adaptation of #Dune hit UK screens, but I can't recall if we discussed this somewhat divisive movie (I liked it).
