I spotted the first chocolate lily blossoms of the year on my hike this weekend. I'm glad I caught them because they don't last long and they are rather unique.

Five chocolate lily blossoms from one stalk. Each has a curved stem so that the flower is pointed downward. The flowers are in the shape of a bell. Their color is a deep purple, almost brown with green vertical splashes.

This lily plant has four blossoms that are starting to open. Right now the buds hang over so that the flower is facing downward. The petals are a very deep, almost black color. Earlier, the buds had a greenish stripe going down the center of the petal. Orange stamens are just starting to appear.

This is called chocolate lily. They were all just beginning to open, so I was curious what they look like once fully in bloom. I love the deep, dark colors.
