💔 I'm a Veteran for Peace who enlisted in 1994 when #DADT was so new the homosexuality question was still on my enlistment form AND asked by the MEPS anyway.
I'm a queer, nonbinary, disabled vet grieving SO many losses. This isn't The Worst Thing, but it's an injustice in an infinite line of them.

I joined the US ARMY in the summer of 97. I served under #DADT and did so as an out gay man if indigenous heritage. I served a country that told me time and time again that I was a #2ndClassCitizen. Why? Because I knew the nation, as imperfect as it is, is never beyond saving for OUR sake.

I was a gay service member under Clinton’s #DADT. I remember what it was like to have to lie about who you are just to serve your country. With the fear of persecution and ruination for the rest of you life. It made #LGBTQIA2+ service members an underground element within the ranks.
