Dalamus' diet, at least in Menzoberranzan, relied heavily on fungus such as mushrooms & molds, lichen, moss. Bluecap mushrooms and cricket flour for breads and cereals. Tubers and root vegetables. Rothe meat and cheese, insects and arthropods for added protein.

Oh, he picks them up--he just often misinterprets them :')
Plenty of them mean differently in Menzoberranzan than they do on the Surface.
For example, on the Surface, eye contact during conversation is seen as respectful, whereas lack of eye contact shows disinterest.

As of the events of BG3, Dalamus (left) has a 2-year-old son, Zektyrr (right). Zek was born to Dalamus & Nedvyllanna Strighym while Dal was Patron of House Strighym. He wasnt allowed to get attached nor even consider Zektyrr his own, as he belonged to the House.
