This portrait painting depicts a woman of color thoughtfully looking to her left, wearing a purple sweatshirt or casual top and a red and purple turban or head wrap.

Against a muted light blue-gray background, it is a close-up portrait, focusing on Jackie's head and shoulders. She is positioned slightly turned towards the viewer's right side, creating a sense of engagement. The painting's framing is tight, drawing our attention to her facial features and the textures of her attire. The colors and the brush strokes appear deliberate as if showing the passage of time or the weight of now.

American artist Nathan Goldstein is best known for classically styled portraits, such as Jackie. In addition to portraits, he is a prolific author and has written seven books on painting, drawing, and design.

Born in 1927, Goldstein began studying art in 1941 at the Art Institute of Chicago, returning in the 1950s for his Masters in Art. He moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1956, where he began teaching at the New England School of Art and has earned a national reputation as an outstanding art educator. He was inducted as an academician into the National Academy of Art and Design in 1996.
