As far as I'm aware, Canadian bluesman Keith Hallett had gone 10 years without releasing a new album. Instead, I suspect he's been trudging along the dark backroads and murky bywaters, playing to those thirsty for something raw and borderline unhinged. That decade away has certainly changed him, for whilst this latest record is still rooted in the same gutbucket grind as his previous outings (which you should also check out), he's now been marked by a new beast. A heavy dose of 60s psychedelic rock has been stirred into his already heady stew of gravel and dust sky music, giving his brilliant madness a little bit more slack on the leash. Hallett has come back darker and weirder. And that, without a doubt, is a great thing.
