This week I attended #deRSE26 in Stuttgart, gave a talk about #JOSS (doi.org/10.5281/zeno...), co-authored another (doi.org/10.5281/zeno...), helped co-run a workshop on #ResearchSoftware at #OECD (www.oecd.org/en/events/20...), and finally walked along the Seine and back through Paris to my hotel.

A busy week for our Director of Curriculum @tobyhodges.carpentries.org, who attended the #deRSE26 conference at the University of Stuttgart!

He presented a talk on the developments around the AI Carpentry project, and also co-led two @hpc-carpentry.bsky.social-related sessions. Thank you, Toby! πŸ™πŸ’™

Digital sovereignty in the age of software forges: Why preserving source code matters Software Heritage collects publicly available source code from numerous software projects and tracks their ongoing development. In an era dominated by software forges, control over source code has become a matter of scientific and digital sovereignty. Software now underpins nearly every stage of research, from data collection and simulation to analysis and validation. When source code is unavailable, unstable, or lost, scientific results become harder to verify, reproduce, and build upon. Preserving source code ensures that research remains understandable, reproducible, and reusable over time.

Morane Gruenpeter shared her #deRSE26 keynote slides on #DigitalSovereignty and the mission of Software Heritage to preserve this vital intellectual heritage. https://zenodo.org/records/18848442

Did a fair bit of reviewing contributions to the #deRSE26 today. Lots of #AI contributions. A pity.

I have to admit that I am not /the/ expert in that field. But I would argue that ordinary data analysis should be drawn to RSE conferences these days. Have a track "AI & Data Analysis" draws too […]
