A photograph that shows red tentacles bursting from an egg-like sac. The tentacles have a tar-like substance stuck to them (and making strands across the gap between the tentacles. The base of the sac is mottled and opaque. The upper part - torn open by the tentacles - is translucent and delicate in appearance. The main subject is a Devil’s Fingers fungus (Clathrus archeri), also known as octopus stinkhorn, When the tentacles are fully formed, there will be five of them. The fungus is resting on the earth. The dark shapes of leaves and undergrowth is barely visible behind it.
