A great example of sports data visualization with textiles! ⚾ 🧢 #DHmakes

Student: I might want to be a sheep farmer someday.
Me: Oh, I know an academic sheep farmer, let me introduce you to @aearhart.bsky.social.
And that's how I started planning a #DHmakes + sheep Zoom event.
Blue, green, and black wool spun and plied
I was hanging out in YarnLab yesterday and one of my Data Visualization with Textiles students came by and spun the plied some of @thalassalib.bsky.social donated fiber to try out the espinner and we chatted for a while about sewing your own clothes. It was a good day. #DHmakes
While not technically a #DHbakes, I'm gonna say that gelatinous edible(🤔🤨) BookFish is very emphatically #DHmakes. Read the whole thread for some culinary book history joy! 📖🐟
Had fun learning some new tools at the makerspace! Channeling #DHMakes to try out knitted data pieces... maybe a World Cup themed project this summer?
Printed the big broken text in Jan; to finish printing small text only in bits of whitespace, cut out empty space on a test print=>upside down on press, 🧲'd cutouts in place, removed rest; blocked around those & filled w/type. Running short of letters limited/decided wording many times #DHmakes
Embroidered Zs in various shades of blue and teal stitched in a spiral pattern on black fabric. The fabric is patterned with gold stars and dots circled by gold swirls in various sizes. A mix of orange, pink, copper, and mauve beads are stitched into many of the Zs
Spent my day off catching up on my sleep/insomnia visualization/physicalization. Here’s every night since the beginning of the year (1 night = 1 Z). Thread colors represent the amount of sleep & beads represent different types of wakefulness. #DHmakes
First attempt at the entire form. Lots of adjustments ahead, then make-ready, but looking promising! #letterpress #dhmakes
"Amazing Anaglyphs: Letterpress Printing in 3D-
Henningsen will discuss the history of anaglyphs, a form of stereoscopic 3D imaging, and demonstrate how to letterpress print 3D anaglyphs. Participants will have an opportunity to print their own anaglyph poster." This sounds amazing! #DHMakes
#DHmakes !!👀!!
Quilt art on a wall: a rainbow banner made of log cabin blocks, some bunting that reads “iris” on it, and a public library symbol (a person reading a book)
Quilt art on a wall: a steaming mug of tea on top of a stack of books. On the desk in front of the wall is a tea kettle and some tea bags
The @siueiris.bsky.social glowup continues! New additions include the public library symbol for our welcome wall and some cozy tea and books for our tea corner. #DHMakes
I love the shouting effect of the bold lettering on top of the doilies and more delicate textile objects. It's the right moment for it. #DHmakes
Wonderful textile coral reef community art! 🌊 #DHmakes
Given the laughably bad "knitting" on TV, a sci-fi novel with a detailed, specific knitted shawl description and a pattern to match is utterly delightful. #DHmakes

Love the genre of "small useful things made giant".
My favorite today was a human sized wrench with the text "tradeswomen throwing a wrench in fascism". #DHmakes
Nope 👾 🪡 #DHmakes
#DHmakes 💖 🌟
I am all in on more embroidery with wool. 🪡 🐑 #DHmakes
Protest sign quilt as sign! 🪡 🧵 #DHmakes
A 3d printed sign reading "I paused printing anti-ICE whistles to make this sign for trans rights". Two gold anti ICE whistles with local rapid response number on them are embedded on the sign.
Ready with my sign for #NoKings SF. One of my kids will carry it, as I will be in rainbow frog mode. 🐸 🌈 #DHmakes
Zines and posters to print out and hang up around your community! #DHmakes
Sometimes you gotta go small to go big with your protest signs. #DHmakes
Fry, a half blind tabby cat, stretched out covering all the purple and green fabric
TFW you bring home 6 yds of fabric and wash it to start a sewing project... and the cat stretches himself out very precisely to call dibs on all of it. #DHmakes
Two 8.5 x 11 letterpress prints of a Luddite in blue ink. The top print is on cardboard-colored paper. It says: “Heck yes, I’m “AI Ready” Luddites didn’t “fear technology” They rejected worker immiseration as the price of the profits of the rich”. A Woolfproof Press sticker is positioned on the bottom left corner of the prints
My anti-AI prints arrived and they’re even better in person! I can’t wait to post in my office and give out to fellow refusers (I got 5 to start). Thanks @wolfproofpress.com + @literaturegeek.bsky.social! #DHmakes
I am already excited about all the posters that people are making tomorrow with their own hands. #DHmakes
The big lasercut lino block printed well; printed a lighter version as well, maybe for the background of a different print. #DHmakes
What kind of thing does data visualization with textiles look like? I'm adding in examples past students have shared, but for the moment, here's some of mine. #DHmakes
