My step grandma is dying. Her body is failing but her mind is sound. They've got her on palliative medications as death is imminent. And she knows this is the end. It's beyond cruel.
#dignityindying should be the law of the land. She would have chosen it, had that been an option, I'm sure.

My friend Alain was a courageous campaigner for #DignityInDying as he fought brain cancer. He died peacefully in the end, but was denied the death he had wanted to choose.
Others should not be denied the right to die on their own terms as Alain was.

Am glad that the assisted dying Bill has passed the Commons today.
It will almost certainly be defeated in the Lords (unless there are a lot of them with trips to Switzerland in their near future) ... but tiny steps forward are still steps forward.

Dignity in dying should be holistic - that includes people having the right to choose. That choice should not be palliative or assisted dying, it should be personalised and allow for all care and empowerment for the individual.
