I love Bash. I used to write tons of Bash. There is a lot of Bash in my life, even to this day.
But here's my life now:
* Bash holds some stuff together (small stuff: usually setting variables, aliases, and/or piping together a few CLI tools. See […]

Yo I am back on #hyprland and I have a Brand New linux rice made. I would say I'm pretty good at arch linuxing at this point. Not at all an expert or anything. But I'm confident!

Stop manually copying config files. 🛑
GNU Stow is the cleanest way to manage your dotfiles using symlinks. One repo, multiple machines, zero mess.

Oh my, could it be that #chezmoi ticks most boxes why I was starting with #NixOS in the first place? 🤔
https://www.chezmoi.io/
Initial tests looking great. It's flexible and allows very easy adaptation for templates or host/user/...-specific settings.
I don't think that it's made for managing […]
I recently switched to #Chezmoi to manage my #dotfiles on both #Linux and #Windows. But there doesn't seem to be a good way to give config directories different paths on Linux and Windows respectively. There's a feature request about it: github.com/twpayne/chez....
this is always where I end up! Can you say more about not caring about dotfiles?
ok, I lasted like a week before manually add ll="ls -lah --color" to my .zprofile.
Yes, I know, dotfiles.
Anyone have a dotfiles approach that I'll actually use? MacOS primary, don't really care about syncing it elsewhere, I use homebrew.
I'd be open to some new shell thingie.
#dotfiles
do you use it? do you have your config that I can take a look at?
(second vote for chezmoi! but clearly I should do an unholy mash up of atuin and oh-my-posh too)
Thank you! oh-my-posh looks interesting, and apparently works way beyond just zsh: website says "PowerShell, Bash, Zsh, Fish, Nu Shell, and more. Windows, macOS, Linux, WSL, containers, SSH sessions" (I'm on MacOS primary which is zsh by default now)
Yes, I was looking for opinionated takes other than "just use git" 😅
There are a TON of different things in this space, so I'm looking for people's opinions / their setup. Maybe @lunesu.com is right and I should lean into chezmoi!
atuin has been on my list to check out. Thanks!
Interesting, thank you!
I'm not really looking to replace shell commands / navigation, but rather how to manage shell customization in a way that I'm not starting from scratch, which is usually called "dotfiles"
I had starred this at some point on GH. Like micro, love that it's just a binary.
Arch Linux and Hyprland installed. Time for linux ricing.

Deep in the move to #nix for #dotfiles and system management; also fully using #jujutsu too. Big up to @evantravers.bsky.social for the assist. 🙏🏻💯
